Aparna Thyagarajan is the Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Shobitam, a D2C ethnic fashion brand making Indian handlooms both affordable and elegant globally. Fashion and design always intrigued her and she recalls being a curious kid who would keenly observe the finest details of art around her. As a 12-year-old, she even stitched her first dress for her sister Ambika. This passion for design, fashion and creativity re-ignited when she met a Zardosi artist during a sabbatical in 2019. It inspired her to showcase the Indian fabrics, Indian culture and heritage on a global level. She took a leap of faith and together with her sister, founded ‘Shobitam’.
At Shobitam, their mission is to democratize ethnic fashion by making Indian ethnic wear affordable, elegant and available globally. Shobitam is all about embracing your ethnicity and wearing it with pride. To help people feel good, look good and do good! Through their social initiatives Shobitam Cares and Shobitam Gives, they try to create a business that empowers society by creating a positive impact. Prior to founding Shobitam, She had a 7+ years career at Microsoft where she developed a good understanding of E-commerce, Global Brand Building, and Social Media. Building Shobitam has been a learning experience in itself, for it has taught her the importance of staying grounded to one’s roots and giving back to the community
